Asus Zenfone 2 Turns out to be the most successful and remarkable smartphone of 2015. It’s a great smartphone with high specs at a great price. Official way Unlock Bootloader still promises and rumours, while mean XDA member shakalaca played around with ADB and managed to crack the method unlock bootloader which only requires root and doesn’t need any communication with ASUS. It’s still an informal and dangerous method, but as we know “You won’t know if you don’t try”. Here are the instructions to unlock the bootloader and root Asus Zenfone 2.
Instructions for Rooting Asus Zenfone 2
This method mentioned below is very obvious if the steps are followed carefully. The advantages of this method are:
- Updateable via OTA (over-the-air)
- No boot loop
- UnRoot is not required before applying OTA
How to root Asus Zenfone 2
- Download and install the program driver Asus Zenfone 2 here and set up ADB here.
- Download tools root one-click for Zenfone 2 here
- Enable debugging USB debugging in section Developer Options (Which can be activated by multiple tabs on Build number in Settings -> About ) or see the article Instructions to enable USB debugging mode
- Extract it with WinRAR or 7zip and connect your phone to your computer with a USB cable
- Run CheckBeforeAction.bat from the extracted file. You will receive a confirmation to proceed to the next step
- Then run Root_zenfone.bat
- Your Asus Zenfone 2 starts automatically.
Unlock Bootloader (ZE551ML and ZE550ML)
This method is also applicable to users of ZE550ML, using updates 2.19.40.
How to Unlock Bootloader Zenfone 2
- Update your Asus Zenfone 2 to 2.19.40.
- Make sure your phone is Root.
- Check ADB is installed and working on your computer
- Enter the following command in the Windows cmd window
adb shell su getprop ro.isn > /factory/asuskey reboot bootloader
The phone will reboot on bootloader and after updating itself, phone will reboot again and ASUS screen will be white (locked bootloader has black screen, you will see the difference by yourself).
- Download black splash screen here and copy it to folder adb. (It only works when the files are in the adb folder)
- Navigate to adb folder open cmd and type following command
adb reboot bootloader fastboot devices
- This device must be listed in this case. Execute the following command
fastboot flash splashscreen splashscreen.img
- Restart your phone and see the screen again.
Your device is now Unlock Bootloader. Following the steps won’t have any data loss from internal memory and sd card, but backup in case if you’re out of luck.
